Lorica International Announces New White Paper on the Evolution of FR Yarn

By admin,

San Diego, CA – May 22, 2015 – Lorica International, a developer of innovative materials and manufacturing methods in technical textiles and yarns, released a new white paper today, “The Evolution of One of the World’s Most Fire Resistant Fibers – OPF.” The white paper reviews how advances in technology are bringing life back to Oxidized Polyacrylonitrile Fiber (OPF or OPAN).

“There are only a handful of inherently flame resistant (FR) fibers in the world that can be transformed into yarn, fabric, and, ultimately, FR garments, each with their strengths and weaknesses,” said Mark Zwerenz, CEO of Lorica International. “Both garment manufacturers and those who rely on those garments have been seeking an alternative for decades that is light-weight, comfortable, inherently fire-resistant and non-conductive. This new white paper explores how Lorica’s OPF yarns and fabrics may be the answer the industry has been long awaiting.”

Highlights of the paper include:
• What is OPF and its technical characteristics?
• Competing fabric comparisons
• Key reasons for the lack of OPF adoption in the FR apparel market
• Advancements in the treatment of OPF

Lorica International Awarded Fourth Patent for DYSP Manufacturing Process

By admin,

SAN DIEGO, CA–(Marketwired – January 13, 2015) – Lorica International, a developer of innovative materials and manufacturing methods in technical textiles and yarns, has been granted U.S. patent 8,850,794 for its Direct Yarn Spinning Process (DYSP), a disruptive technology that enables the production of 100% Oxidized Polyacrylonitrile Fiber (OPF) yarn.

This new patent complements other issued patents surrounding the Company’s DYSP technology and OPF yarn, covering input products for yarn machines to draft and spin the yarn, processes used in factories for manufacturing the yarn and the final yarn product. The new patent brings Lorica’s total worldwide patent portfolio to four issued U.S. patents, two issued international patents (Japan & Taiwan), and additional pending patent applications that expand the scope of protection for the machine and processes. Lorica has retained a leading IP strategy and services firm to facilitate the further strategic development of its patent portfolio.

“We are pleased to receive our fourth patent, which significantly adds to our competitive position in the marketplace,” said Mark Zwerenz, CEO of Lorica International. “Building a strong intellectual property portfolio is essential to our success as we execute upon our strategic growth initiatives. Other key milestones, such as the introduction of new fabrics and yarns, as well as additional market certifications, will help us prepare for our first commercial product sales in early 2015.”

Lorica’s DYSP technology enables the production of 100% OPF yarn, which can be consistently manufactured into fabrics as easily as cotton. The fabric is comfortable, non-conductive and inherently flash and arc-fire resistant. Lorica’s patented, disruptive technology results in the world’s only comfortably wearable fabric made exclusively from an inherently protective material that does not burn, melt or ignite when exposed to flame or electrical arc.

Lorica International to Debut New UL-Recognized IK9 100% OPF Fabric

By admin,

Available for Product Demonstrations at NSC Congress and Expo

San Diego, CA – September 15, 2014 – Lorica International will be introducing its new IK9 100% Oxidized PAN Fiber (OPF) fabric at the 2014 National Safety Council Congress and Expo in San Diego, CA, September 15-17. The event, attended by safety, health and environmental professionals from around the world, provides the ideal venue to introduce this ‘next generation’ OPF as a new standard in technical textiles.

IK9 was recognized recently under the Component Recognition Program of UL. Lorica IK9 meets all applicable requirements for NFPA 2112, NFPA 1971 and ASTM F1506. This unique combination of light-weight, comfortable fabrics, with flame and arc-flash resistance is the hallmark of all Lorica fabrics. These test results support that claim.

Lorica’s DYSP technology enables the production of 100% OPF yarn, which can be consistently manufactured into fabrics as easily as cotton. The fabric is comfortable, non-conductive and inherently flash and arc-fire resistant. Lorica’s patented, disruptive technology is the world’s only comfortably wearable fabric made exclusively from material that does not burn, melt or ignite when exposed to flame or electrical arc.

Mark Zwerenz, CEO of Lorica International, commented, “This novel, comfortable, inherently non-flammable and non-conductive fabric is poised to raise the bar in personal protective equipment.”

Lorica representatives are available for product presentations. To arrange a demonstration, product sample or fact sheet, please contact Steve Bond, Lorica VP of Marketing & Strategy at 858-866-9966 or steve.bond@loricalusa.com

Lorica International Receives UL Recognition; Validating a New Standard in Personal Protective Equipment

By admin,

Lorica’s IK9 100% OPF fabric has been recognized under the Component Recognition Program of UL. The fabric met all requirements for NFPA 2112, NFPA 1971 and ASTM F1506. This novel, comfortable, inherently non-flammable and non-conductive fabric is poised to raise the bar in personal protective equipment.

San Diego, CA – September 9, 2014 – Lorica International announces that the first product in its portfolio has been recognized under the Component Recognition Program of UL. Lorica IK9 has met all applicable requirements for NFPA 2112, NFPA 1971 and ASTM F1506. This unique combination of light-weight, comfortable fabrics, with flame and arc-flash resistance is the hallmark of all Lorica fabrics. These test results support that claim.

From their San Diego, CA headquarters, Mark Zwerenz, CEO of Lorica International, remarked, “Although we have always known our products perform at the highest level, this validation serves as a great foundation from which our full product portfolio will launch.”

Historically, OPF fabrics have had limited market exposure due to lack of strength and comfort. This milestone, along with overwhelmingly positive user feedback, sets Lorica’s ‘next generation’ OPF as a new standard in technical textiles.

About Lorica International:
Lorica develops innovative materials and manufacturing methods in technical textiles and yarns. Our flagship products are our 100% OPF yarns and fabrics. We push the boundaries of textile technology to address the critical and growing need for light-weight, comfortable, inherently fire-resistant and non-conductive materials in both apparel and industrial applications.
